September 19th,26th Welcoming the Stranger (Led by Fr. Jason)
One of the greatest assets of the Church of the Resurrection is our welcome and our hospitality. It behooves us to put energy into improving this strength. God has given us this talent and it is our responsibility to develop it as far as we can. This two session course will offer up practical techniques in how to start a conversation with a complete stranger and how to be mindful of welcoming folks into a small group like a bible study, a meeting, or social event. Come join us and practice being the Good Samaritan.
October 3-24 – Spiritual Cal-esthetics (Techniques for prayer and meditation led by Fr. Jason)
The prayer defines prayer as responding to God by word and deed. In this four week course, we will examine and practice methods of listening and responding to God. This course will be hands on. Please let Fr. Jason know if you are interested in participating; so that he knows how much materials to purchase.
Oct. 31 – Meet the Interns
Come join a panel discussion with our Resurrection House interns to hear about there ministries in both their parish and non-profit placements.
Nov. 7 - 21 – Book Study Simple Spirituality by Christopher Heuertz (Led by Father Jason)
From the back cover of the book, “Chris Heuertz believes that any true path to spiritual sight ought to be simple. While he is not a contemplative and hardly a mystic, Chris has found, in the Bible and in his work with impoverished people, evidence of a simple spirituality. This way of humility, community, simplicity, submission and brokenness will help you see—no matter how dark things get.”
Come join us for a discussion of this book and a look at our own spirituality. Books cost $15.00 and can be purchased from the church. Please let Father Jason know if you are interested so he can order enough books in advance.
Nov. 28-Dec. 19 – My Servant, the Prince: The Book of Isaiah and the Coming of Jesus led by John Adams
Christians best know the Book of Isaiah, one of the longest and most poetic books of the Bible, for the famous prophecies, read every year during the seasons of Advent and Lent, which foretell the birth, ministry, and suffering of the Messiah. During this Advent study, which will take place on the four Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we will read some of these prophecies, examine them in the historical context in which they were written, and discuss how we see Jesus' life and ministry reflected in them.
January 9-30 – Dinner and a Movie with Jesus – Theology and the Arts led by Keith Winton
Come join Keith Winton for an exloration of the ways God reaches out to us though art forms as diverse as culinary, musical, theatrical, and visual.
February 6-27 – Black History Month led by Rev. Juanita Johnson, Dr. Warren Taylor, and Butch Reel
March 13-Apr 17 – Consumption Junction, what's your function? Led by Rev. Sahra Harding
Have you ever thought about just where your stuff comes from and how it gets to you? Or where it goes when you are through with it? As followers of Christ we are destined to care for our neighbors, but much of the current demand for "stuff" gets in the way of these more fundamental values. This Lenten series will help you better explore how your personal faith can help bring a positive impact to our global community. Led by Rev. Sahra Harding
